Liechtenstein financial regulation: FMA supervision, Asset Management Act and Due Diligence Act

In Liechtenstein, the Financial Market Authority (FMA) supervises asset management companies; the key laws are the Asset Management Act (VVG) and, for anti-money laundering, the Due Diligence Act (SPG), complemented by EEA law. Peak Compliance runs the compliance and risk management function for asset managers in Liechtenstein, supports licensing procedures with the FMA and brings together laws and articles here.

Frequently asked questions

Who supervises asset managers in Liechtenstein?

The Financial Market Authority Liechtenstein (FMA) is responsible under the Financial Market Supervision Act (FMAG). It grants the licence as an asset management company and carries out ongoing supervision directly; unlike in Switzerland, no supervisory organisation is involved. Peak Compliance supports asset managers in both phases.

What does the Asset Management Act (VVG) govern?

The VVG governs the licensing, organisation and supervision of asset management companies in Liechtenstein. As an EEA member, Liechtenstein also applies European financial market law such as MiFID II. Peak Compliance supports the licence at a fixed price after a needs analysis.

Which duties follow from the Due Diligence Act (SPG)?

The SPG sets out professional due diligence duties to combat money laundering and terrorist financing, such as identification, establishing the beneficial owner, risk-based monitoring and documentation. Peak Compliance implements these duties as part of compliance outsourcing in Liechtenstein.

Is Peak Compliance based in Vaduz?
